U7/8 Spring Fling Festival

Get ready for some serious fun and fierce competition! We are thrilled to announce that this year’s tournament will feature not only our amazing boys and girls teams, but also talented squads from the surrounding township! It’s going to be a high-energy showdown you won’t want to miss—let the games begin!

Ages

The Spring Fling is open to all current U7 and U8 In-House players for Shaler, North Hills, and Hampton.

When & Where

June 7, 2025 will be the first annual Shaler SC Spring Fling Festival right here at our Denny Field (100 Lone Oak Drive Pittsburgh PA 15209)

Games

Teams will play 3 24 minute games with a 2 minute half time.

Jerseys

Teams should use their regular season Jerseys for the festival. Pinnies will be made available for any player who does not have a matching shirt.

Festival Rules

U7/U8 6v6 Soccer Festival Rules

(Round Robin Format – 3 Games per Team)


Festival Format:

  • Each team plays 3 round-robin games.
  • 6v6 play: 5 field players + 1 goalkeeper.
  • No standings or playoffs – focus on fun, development, and sportsmanship!

Game Details:

  • Two 12-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime.
  • Field Size: ~30 x 45 yards.
  • Goal Size: Small-sided goals (6' x 8’).
  • Ball Size: Size 3.
  • Referee: Junior Referees from participating clubs.

Player Information:

  • Substitutions: Unlimited, during any stoppage (with referee acknowledgment).
  • Playing Time: All players should receive equal playing time.
  • Minimum Players: 4 to start and continue a match.
  • Recommended Roster: 8–10 players.
  • GAME BALANCE: If the score get out of hand, coaches will work to mix up the teams to bring the game back in alignment.

Game Rules:

  • Kick-Offs: Center circle, to start halves and after goals.
  • Goal Kicks: Taken inside the goal area; opponents must retreat behind midfield until ball is in play.
  • Corner Kicks: Awarded when defending team kicks ball over their end line.
  • Throw-Ins: Allow second attempts for learning; instructional approach.
  • No Offside Rule.
  • All Fouls: Indirect free kick – no penalty kicks.
  • Slide Tackling: Not allowed for safety reasons.
  • Heading: Not allowed for safety reasons.

Festival Reminders:

  • No scorekeeping.
  • Positive encouragement only from coaches and spectators.
  • Referees may coach briefly during play to assist learning.
