Shaler Soccer Club

Fun . Development . Competition . Community

Role Defined

In an organization where every coach, board member, and commissioner is 100% voluntary, it is critical that there is an oversight body with the knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure that the programs are defined and the coaches are supported so that our players receive the best training available.

This newly created club role will fill this position.  Each member comes together to lend their talents and expertise to collaborate on thoughtful and well rounded programs and activities to drive the player and coach development throughout the seasons.

Mike Bianchi

  • First became involved with the club in Fall of 2016
  • Played North Hills and several Pittsburgh club teams throughout his youth
  •  Has coached U10 through U12 and has obtained the new Grassroots 11v11 license
  • Goal is to bring the passion, energy, and excitement to the SSC community. Working with fellow coaches on training and energy to ensure maximum growth out of our children.

Richard McClean

  • Played for various European youth club teams including Ireland School Boy International
  • Has coached various age groups for both Shaler community and Century East serving both as head coach and has achieved the USSF C-License, NSCAA Goalkeeper Coach, and the National Youth License
  • Has been a Member at Large for Shaler Soccer Club for 1 year
  • Goal for each player, regardless of experience level, is to improve their tactical and technical skill levels while developing composure and confidence on and off the ball.  Technical skills are paramount to team and individual player development and success. The goal is to become comfortable while in possession of the ball, develop the ability to pass, move and receive the ball.  Dribble the ball with confidence, strike the ball with accuracy, power and have the ability to beat players 1v1.  Tactical aspects of the game start with developing and understanding the flow of the game, recognizing time, space, and the importance of body positioning.  Understanding basic defending and attacking principles while learning each position on the field and developing a good understanding of the rules and regulations of the game.
