Fall Registration Update

Its hard to believe May is almost over.  School is letting out, summer activities are gearing up…and Shaler Soccer Club is talking FALL REGISTRATION?!

I get it, believe me, the club isnt ready to be talking fall yet either, but alas, we must.  In order to make sure all of the teams are set within PA West (our governing body who oversees all of the community clubs in the area) by August 1, we need to be wrapping registration by the end of June at the latest.

DON’T LET THE SUMMER LURE YOU AWAY FROM REGISTERING!

Open Registration will run May 19 through June 28.  Don’t delay!

Late registration will begin June 29 and run through July 14.  NOTE: SSC only accepts late registrants on an as needed basis to create teams.  It is critical to sign your kids up before June 29 to ensure a roster spot regardless of player age.

Volunteers Needed

The Fall season is a great time to get involved in soccer.  The fall is where a good majority of our players move up to the next age group, new players are joining us at our youngest Developmental levels, and everyone comes back energized from a long summer break.  With all of these moving parts, it is critical now more than ever to have our coaches, commissioners, and any of our various other volunteer positions lined before we hit the summer.  If you are thinking about volunteering or just want to know more about what it entails, please speak up.  The more time we have to talk with you, the better prepared you will be come the fall.

If you would like to know more about how you have volunteer please click this LINK.  You will find all of the different ways you can help the club and if you are interested in an executive board or member at large position, when you navigate to the respective page, you can click on the role to learn more or click on the current member to email them any questions.

Check-In from TOPSoccer

This season has shown us a few new faces but many players have been with us for a few seasons now. The growth in several of the kids has been absolutely outstanding! Last season one player could only kick the ball about 6 inches and is now up to over a foot and moving quickly behind the ball. Another player would be challenged to participate  independently in previous seasons and now is running around and has become a top scorer during scrimmages. The teamwork and sportsmanship is increasingly noticeably. The players are passing between each other rather than playing by themselves. They're working as a team, everyone is getting a chance to handle the ball. The games are fun for the kids and there is a game for everyone every week.

TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs.  If you would like to get involved, please reach out to our Director of TOPSoccer.

Year End Trinkets or Year-Round Training

In years past, the board has reviewed our finances come the end of the season/year and taken some surpluses and put that money into player gifts.  These have ranged from skill balls, to bags, to towels, to shirts, to other great little trinkets to commemorate the players experience that season with the club.  These trinkets were based solely on budget allowances and were not intended to be a season over season offering.

With Vision 2020, the board is challenging themselves to determine what offers the best value to the players, coaches, and parents of our club.  A year end trinket? or offering something different, something more.  The board has been focusing on bringing on several initiatives for player and coach develoment that are coming this summer and fall that will allow players more opportunities to play, enhance their skills, and ultimately enjoy their time on the field just a little bit more.

One example of the initiatives the board is working on is the re-introduction and refinement of a U10 girls and boys skills focused practice each week that will take the place of one of the standing practices with Girls playing on Monday Evenings and Boys on Tuesdays.  These practices will involve bringing in some professional development coaches to help strengthen the players and minimize the culture shock usually felt when moving from the Developmental Program to the Recreational Leagues.  This will also be a great opportunity for the coaches making the transition to pick up on some good solid practice techniques to help carry their teams throughout the season.
